«THE MATTERHORN STORY»

Ten years after its premiere, Livia Anne Richard's touching story is returning to the Riffelberg this summer as a new production.
In this unique theatrical setting at 2,582 meters above sea level, Richard, co-directed with Bernese director Lilian Naef, shows how seven men set out to conquer the “Hore” for the first time on 13 July 1865. With this daring undertaking, they were to change the history of Zermatt forever...
The new production features fresh characters and a congenial musical concept by the Zermatt band “Wintershome” and the young Bernese pianist Elia Gasser. He will improvise live on stage every evening.
A total of 29 performers will take to the stage. Most of them are from Zermatt or the Upper Valais. More than half of them have already performed in at least one of Richard's three previous “obena” productions. The best-known face on stage is Valais actor Dani Mangisch, who will be seen in a double role as Reverend Charles Hudson and mountain guide Elmar.
“THE MATTERHORN STORY” will celebrate its premiere on Friday, June 27, 2025. This will be followed by 31 performances until August 23. The auditorium seats 448 and allows an intimate theater experience with great proximity to the play.
